Czech coach Liptak announces his EHF EURO squad

"All my players are fit. This is the first time ever that we have no major injury problems" coach Martin Liptak was pleased to confirm, before his Czech team flew to Serbia already on Sunday, where they will have their final two test matches against the EHF EURO host on Tuesday and Wednesday (without spectators). At the EHF EURO 2012 they will compete with FYR Macedonia, Germany and Sweden in the Preliminary Round Group B in Nis.

Liptak also announced his squad for Serbia – without any surprises. The team is led by the current World Handball Player of the Year, Filip Jicha. And like Jicha, nine of those 16 players come from clubs in the German Bundesliga.

Liptak commented on his squad on the official website of the Czech team:


"Petr Štochl and Martin Galia are two very experienced goalkeepers from whom the team will benefit greatly, and who co-operate well together. At the left wing position Karel Nocar is the clear number one, as he is irreplaceable. Jiří Motl is the only player of our squad currently playing for a Czech team, but he is an important alternative.

At the right wing position we have two well known names in Jan Sobol and Jan Filip, whose nominations were certainties. It’s unnecessary to comment on our major force Filip Jicha at the left-back position, as he is the essential striker for our team. Without him everything would be really difficult. But Alois Mraz and Pavel Horak with their Bundesliga experience will help Filip Jicha to find some recovery time. Jiri Hynek and Daniel Kubes are, for me, one of the best defending couples in the whole of Europe, so we know that we can count on them."

Liptak is optimistic that his team will have a short acclimatisation time in Serbia with those last two matches: "We didn’t have to travel through Europe in the last days of preparation, so we can have a closer focus on the EHF EURO," Liptak said.
