Győri Audi ETO KC: Season Review 2011/12
Regular EHF Women's Champions League semi-final participation, coupled with the strengthened squad of the Hungarian side has paid off, as Győri Audi ETO KC have reached the final of the prestigious tournament for the second time in the club's history.
By earning a spot in the final, the Hungarians have reached the top four of the EHF CL for the sixth consecutive time. But unluckily for them they haven't won any big titles yet, as they’ve lost out in all of the finals they’ve played in European Cups.
The arrival of the talented trio of Andrea Lekić, Heidi Løke, and Jovanka Radičević gave the Hungarian champions great variety in their game plan and with the strongest goalkeeper duo of Katalin Pálinger and Katrine Lunde Haraldsen, the elite club marched through several of their opponents like a hot knife through butter.
Győri Audi ETO have the longest winning streak in the Hungarian league and cup, and this season especially, they’ve outclassed all of their opponents by a clear margin.
In the semi-final of the EHF CL, Anita Görbicz and her team-mates beat Oltchim in the return tie in impressive fashion to earn a final berth in the EHF Women's Champions League, which was one of the main aims of their management.
Within their ranks Győri Audi ETO have playmaker Anita Görbicz, the current top-scorer of the EHF Women's Champions League with 112 goals.
Looking at their current roster, Heidi Løke is another key player, being the current IHF World Handball Player of the Year and is also responsible for many goals from the line.
However, Győr suffered some problems on their way to the final, as some painful defeats occurred, especially in the preliminary phase under the coaching of former trainer Csaba Konkoly.
With the arrival of successful coach Karl-Erik Bøhn the whole city of Győr hopes for the first big trophy in the colourful history of the Hungarian team.
