All the views from the EHF Women's Champions League Final, First Leg between Györi AUDI ETO KC and Buducnost.

Post-match reaction

Karl ERIK BOHN, Head Coach, Győri AUDI ETO KC:
"I am disappointed that we only won by two goals, even though we were at five. We did not play well, and only Anita Görbicz and Katrine Lunde Haraldsen emerged from the performance (with any credit).

"There are many things we can do better next week (in the second leg on Sunday 13 May). Will be very difficult to cut back, but we will find where we can improve."

Anita GÖRBICZ, middle-back, Györi AUDI ETO KC:
"I am glad that we won because we expected a difficult match. However, I am very sad that we have won by only two goals. If the five-goal advantage we had earlier had been further increased we expect the situation would be easier for us in the second match.

"I hope that everyone in the rematch will be in top form as we have prepared all season for this. We know what awaits us in Podgorica; the local hall. I really hope that as it is on my birthday I will raise aloft the EHF Women's Champions League trophy. That would be the most beautiful birthday gift in my life."

Dragan ADZIC, Head Coach, Buducnost:
"Congratulations to Győr, who were better (tonight). I have a can of bugs to fix and I am confident that we will win (the second leg in Podgorica) by more than two goals."

Ana DJOKIC, line player, Buducnost:
"We expected a difficult match. All games have peaks and troughs, but our bad period today lasted longer than we expected. We are better than the way we played today and we need to improve, mainly in our defence."

Győri Audi ETO coach Karl Erik Bøhn and players Andrea Lekić and Orsolya Vérten also talked to the Hungarian Hathárom TV (www.hatharom.hu) about the first leg tie.

hatharom.hu: Győri Audi ETO were ahead by four goals, but Buducnost reduced the difference to only two goals. What happened in the dying minutes?

Orsolya Vérten: Our defence had holes and we acted in an unfocused way, so the Montenegrins took advantage of these errors. It would have been much nicer to have taken a five-goal lead to Podgorica, but in my opinion we are still capable of coming up with a good result, even a victory, in their Arena.

hatharom.hu: Who were the key persons for your side's victory?

Karl Erik Bøhn: Centre-back Anita Görbicz was excellent and Katrine Lunde Haraldsen saved brilliantly in the goal, but to win the trophy, we have to improve the level for each player in the return tie.

hatharom.hu: How do you see Győr's tight defending on Bojana Popović?

Karl Erik Bøhn: For a while we had good control of her, but in the dying minutes she took command and so Buducnost came very close. Bojana is their key player, is very difficult to stop, and she performed at her highest level.

Andrea Lekić: We gave Bojana far too much space. She played outstandingly well in this match, and had a long list of assists and goals. We couldn´t stop her, and that was the biggest problem in our game."

Orsolya Vérten: "Bojana is definitely the most emblematic player of Buducnost. She is gives assists and scores goals just as Anita Görbicz does, so we must pay her extra attention in the return leg."

hatharom.hu: Did you expect a game with so many goals for both sides? What must be improved in the return tie?

Karl Erik Bøhn: "I expected that we would score that many goals, but I was also hoping that we could restrict our opponents and stop them from netting so many times. Conceding 27 goals is far too much. We need to improve our defence, and in attack we will need to use our brain a little bit more. We must become more focused and get tighter in the middle position and only allow them shots from their wing players. We must also play much faster in our attacks."

hatharom.hu: Are you happy with the slim advantage?

Karl Erik Bøhn: "I´m not happy with the small two-goal difference. We held a five-goal advantage and in that phase, if we’d have played more cleverly, we could have won by 6 or 7 goals.  Still, it´s a victory, we have a good team, and we can play better, so we might get a surprise result in Podgorica."

hatharom.hu: Is it possible to prepare for the atmosphere in the Morača Arena?

Orsolya Vérten: "It will probably be similar to the atmosphere of the Veszprém Arena.  We´ll have hundreds of supporters to cheer for us and I hope we`ll hear their voices over the Montenegrins!"
