Dinart worried about Danish counter-attack
Didier Dinart, Atletico Madrid's French legend, says that the key to defeating AG Kobenhavn in their VELUX EHF FINAL4 semi-final on Saturday (26 May) will be preventing the Danish team scoring on the counter-attack.
Speaking to the official Atletico Madrid website, www.bmatleticodemadrid.es, the line player hopes that the experience of his team will prove to be too much for the Danes, who are competing in their very first season in the VELUX EHF Champions League.
"We can't concede easy goals," he said. "We can't lose balls in attack as we need time to defend and prevent AG Kobenhavn showing their fast counter-attack. If we do that, we'll surely each the final".
However, Dinart warned about the difficulty of beating AG Kobenhavn, who will have a strong sowing from their fans at the LANXESS arena in Cologne.
"AG Kobenhavn will have the support of many fans," said Dinart. "It will be very difficult, but we want to close the season the best way as possible; winning the VELUX EHF Champions League - the biggest title".
Dinart is confident that Atleico Madrid will profit from their previous experiences in the VELUX EHF FINAL4, when the Spanish team, then under the name of Ciudad Real, finished in third in 2010 and second in 2011.
"We have the experience of the two last years," said Dinart who has won the EHF Men's Champions League four times; with Ciudad Real in 2006, 2008 and 2009 and Montpellier in 2003. "But in sport the only important thing is the present. So first we'll try to win the semi-final and then we can think about the final”,
Despite Atletico Madrid having their fair share of fans inside the LANXESS arena, the fans of the red and whites who cannot make the journey to Germany are being treated to a VELUX EHF FINAL4 weekend at the Marca Sport Café in Madrid where they can enjoy a special menu and cheer on their team.
