New coach in Veszprém

A long era has come to an end at Hungarian record champions MKB Veszprém: Lajos Mocsai finished his job as a coach of MKB with the in total 20th Hungarian championship (the fifth straight title) after two clear victories (33:22, 29:21) and a tight defeat (23:24) in the league finals against Pick Szeged.

Mocsai, who has combined his club job with his role as national team trainer, will now concentrate fully on his job as the Hungarian men’s national team coach, starting with the preparations for their Olympic campaign in London.

“The time had come to split those operations. But of course I will come to see the Veszprém team as often as possible,” Mocsai said.

Mocsai’s successor is a well-known name in the world of handball: Spanish coach Antonio Carlos Ortega.

“Veszprém is a famous club and I want to take them forward with a more offensive style of play,” Ortega said, who had previously coached, the Spanish club Antequera.

He hopes that the two times VELUX EHF Champions League winner Lászlo Nagy (FC Barcelona Intersport) will join MKB Veszprém as soon as possible.

Nagy shall replace MKB top scorer Marko Vujin, who will join VELUX EHF Champions League winner THW Kiel from the new season onwards.

Ortega has already announced the transfer of pivot Marco Oneto. The Chilean comes from Ortega’s former club FC Barcelona and signed a three years contract in Veszprem.
