Ana Djokic joins Rostov Don

Ahead of the start of the race for the national trophies and a possible place in the Women’s EHF Champions League, Russian vice-champions and cup winners, Rostov Don have secured the help of two Olympic medal winners.

After signing goalkeeper, Sonja Barjaktarovic, another EHF Champions League winner, Ana Djokic (RK Buducnost Podgorica) is moving to Rostov.

A fantastic season lies behind the Montenegrin national team line-player, who was a part of the historic success for Montenegrin sport when the women's handball team won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in London.

On top of that she was one of the key players in the biggest team success the small Balkan country has had, when RK Buducnost Podgorica won the Women’s EHF Champions League. Now, she is ready for the new challenge in Russia, which will be the fifth country in her proffesional career.

Djokic started her professional career in the Serbian team Knjaz Milos in her hometown, Arandjelovac. She also played in Napredak Krusevac until 2002. She then left Serbia and spent six seasons in Hungary at Gyori Audi ETO KC. Her next station was the Croatian champion, Podravka Koprivnica, before she moved  to Podgorica in 2009.

Meanwhile she accepted an offer from the Montenegerin federation and played for the national team after a three year break from her last appearance for Serbia. She was a part of the team that played at the World Championship 2011 in Brasil.

Russians prepare at Szabella Cup

The Russian side will prepare for qualification in Budapest, playing in the Szabella Cup on 25 and 25 August 2012 with some of the top teams in Europe.

Group A : Rostov Don, RK Krim Mercator, CS Oltchim Rm., Valcea Group B: FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria, RK Buducnost T-Mobile, Hypo NÖ

In the Women's EHF Champions League Qualification Tournament, Rostov will play against Serbian champion, RK Zaječar. Should they win, they will meet either tournament hosts, Jolidon Cluj, or the Turkish team, Muratpasa.
