New coach for Swedish women

The Swedish Handball Federation at a press conference on Friday presented 58-year-old Torbjorn Klingvall (pictured right) as the new head coach for the women's national team until 2014.

Klingvall, who has been in charge of various Swedish youth national teams since 2006, is taking over from Per Johansson who stepped down as head coach a couple of weeks ago. With Klingvall as coach Sweden's Men's 19 team won bronze at the 2011 World Cup in Argentina.

“I am looking forward to an interesting job. I am looking forward to working with the entire organisation in the Swedish Handball Federation, and one of my skills is working strategically, but of course I realise that we also have some challenges coming up very soon,” Klingvall said, referring to the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia which starts in less than two months.

As a player Torbjörn Klingvall played in the Swedish league for HK Drott from Halmstad becoming Swedish national champion in 1978 and 1979. From 1978 to 1982 he played 40 internationals for Sweden.

He has coaching experience from Norway as well as Sweden and held various assignments for the Swedish Handball Federation, including being a mentor for the women's team from 1996 to 1997.

He has also held positions in both the European Handball Federation and the International Handball Federation.

Thomas Sivertsson has been appointed assistant coach for the women's national team also until 2014.

Their first task will be the Golden League in Bergen, Norway, at the end of November where Sweden´s opponents are Norway, France and Denmark, followed by the EHF EURO 2012 from 4 to 16 December in Serbia.
