THW Kiel sign their first ever Tunisian

THW Kiel had observed him before, and during the IHF Super Globe in Doha, and Wael Jallouz impressed the scouts. Now the 21 year-old left back will be the first ever Tunisian to play for the defending VELUX EHF Champions League champions.

On Tuesday representatives from Kiel and Jallouz signed a three year contract in his hometown Hammamet. Tunisia.

Kiel also signed a cooperation contract with Association Sportive Hammamet, promising to support the club’s youth program.

Jallouz will start his challenge from the beginning of next season in Kiel. “Wael clearly has the potential to become an important player for THW.

“He is one of the world’s leading talents,” said THW coach Alfred Gislason during a media conference in Hammamet after the contract had been signed.

Wallouz played for Saudi-Arabian team Mudhar at the IHF Super Globe, where Kiel finished second behind Atletico Madrid, he persuaded Gislason by his power and jump shots; “they were impressive performances,” agreed Kiel manager Klaus Elwardt, who had also been in Doha at the end of August.

Jallouz was born on 3 May 1991 in Grombalia, and despite his young age he is already a key player for the Tunisian national team, with which he became African champions in 2012 and reached the Olympic quarter-final in London. At THW, Jaoouz will receive the number 22 on his shirt.

“It is a huge honour for me to be part of the best handball club in the world. I have to thank THW for their trust and I am really looking forward to get to know the fans and the city in this, the biggest possible challenge of my handball career.

“I am brave and encouraged enough to dare taking this step,” the Tunisian said.

THW Kiel also confirmed that team captain Marcus Ahlm (34) is playing his last season for the Germans.

“I will return to Sweden after this season. But it is not yet confirmed what my job will be,” Ahlm was quoted on the THW website.

“Marcus had informed us very early so we had enough time to start the change of generations on the line player position by signing Rene Toft Hansen and Patrick Wiencek,” said manager Elwardt.
