Győr extend contracts for leading players

Hungarian champion Győr will keep some of their key players after next season

Győr extend contracts for leading players

Györi Audi ETO KC have announced today they have extended contracts with Heidi Løke, Katrine Lunde, Eduarda Amorim, and Adrienn Orbán.

Győr had intensive negotiations in January as half of their squad's contracts will expire at the end of the season. The management are thinking in the long term, and naturally wanted to keep all of their players.

"We have started to talk with eight of our players at the beginning of the year because their contract will end in the summer.

“It is very important because they are all fantastic members of the team" said Ernő Kelecsényi, president of the club.

Heidi Løke, 2011 World Handball Player of the Year, has signed a two year contract.

The Norwegian line player also had negotiations with her former club Larvik, but chose to continue in Győr.

"One of the main reasons was the professional circumstances in Győr; my teammates, coaches, the conditions of the preparations, and the leadership of the club are absolutely unique.

“There was another very important aspect for me when I decided to stay here; we have found an optimal solution to educate my son, Alexander. He will start first class in September in the international school of Audi. Next to this he will learn to read and write in Norwegian three times a week with the help of a mother tongue teacher" explained Løke.

The other Norwegian member of the team Katrine Lunde has a new contract with Győr for a minimum of two years, with an option for one more.

"My main reason to stay is that I think ETO is the best club in the World.

“I can work together with the best team here, and I also really like the style of our new coach Ambros Martín. That is why I really like to be here in Győr" added Lunde.

The most important reason to remain in Hungary for Brazilian Eduarda Amorim, who has also signed for at least 2 years, is the team’s ambition.

"I feel now we are the closest to our target to win the EHF Champions League.

“As this is one of our biggest dreams, it means a lot to me that I can play in a team with such a big chance to win it.

“Besides this, our team is fantastic. I really like the club, the city, and the local people. These were all factors that I considered when I extended my contract" commented Amorim.

The club will also keep one of their home grown Hungarian players, Adrienn Orbán for two years, with an option to extend for another year.

"It is a huge thing to me that I can play in my home town in the club where I started to play handball as a child. It is wonderful that I can be a member of one of the world's best club at home" said the right winger.

The club still is still in negotiation with Raphaëlle Tervel, Andrea Lekić, Anikó Kovacsics, and Jovanka Radičević, as they try to secure the strong core of the squad for the long run.
