Double Olympic winner will leave Esbjerg after this season

Snorroeggen returns to Byåsen

Norwegian international Gøril Snorroeggen is going to return to her childhood club Byåsen Trondheim after this season. The 27 year old backcourt player has been representing Danish league club and Cup Winners' Cup participant Team Esbjerg since 2010, but the double Olympic gold medalist has now decided to return home.

“I have got an offer from Byåsen which is my childhood club, and besides my boyfriend and I have bought a house in Trondheim. Actually I would have liked to stay a year or two longer in Esbjerg, but right now things fit with regards to my boyfriend and my self, so this is the way it is going to be. I will also have to finish my education as a doctor soon, so that will probably gain priority, when I go home,” Gøril Snorroeggen told the Danish newspaper JydskeVestkysten.

According to the Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen, Byåsen are willing to find an arrangement with Snorroeggen, so she can finish her education and along with playing for the Norwegian top club.

Gøril Snorroeggen played an important part, as Norway won the final against Montenegro at the London Olympics last summer, but a shoulder injury kept her out of EURO 2012 in Serbia in December, where Norway took the silver medals.

In Team Esbjerg, head coach Lars Frederiksen is sorry to see one of his key players go. “She is a top class player, but that is the way things are once in a while. Fortunately we can still benefit from her qualities for some months”, Frederiksen told JydskeVestkyten.

In two weeks time Esbjerg will travel to Russia's Rostov-Don to play both matches of the Cup Winners' Cup Last 16 there on 2 and 3 February.
