Nikola follows brother Luka to a new club
Karabatic signs for five months with Aix
The next steps of Nikola Karabatic lead to the French club Aix-en-Provence. The double EHF Champions League winner signed a five month contract with Aix, after he agreed with his former club Montpellier Agglomération HB on the termination of his contract a day before.
Karabatic, who was an instrumental figure for Montpellier in 2003 when the club won its only EHF Champions League trophy, decided to join his brother Luka, who had left Montpellier for Aix earlier this season.
Since the start of the season Montpellier have already lost four players – besides Karabatic´s siblings Slovenian goalkeeper Primož Prošt, who signed on Thursday with the German club and EHF Cup participant Frisch Auf Göppingen and Erlend Mamelund, the Norwegian centre back.
The challenge will now be tough for Montpellier, who aim to qualify for the Last 16 of the continental top flight. They also long for next year's edition of the European premier club competition, meaning they have to finish at least at the second position in the French League.
"The team doesn't rely only on one player. Our aim is to remain in the European top eight, even if it's going to be difficult. We know that the comeback of Nikola back in 2009 was one of the turning points in the club's story," the team's head coach, Patrice Canayer declared.
