Four more clubs complete top eight list

The quarter-finals list of the Women´s Cup Winners´ Cup was completed last weekend as four more teams joined the first quartette (Thüringer HC, HC Leipzig, Hypo NÖ and Rostov-Don). The reigning national champions of three countries (Germany, Austria and Russia) qualified for the next round while other three were eliminated in the Last 16.

Especially, the absence of Croatian and Polish title holders is shocking after they both easily won the first leg matches on the home courts. But Podravka Vegeta squandered eight goal lead against Váci NKSE as the team of the coach Neven Hrupec lost by ten goals in Hungary (19:29). Kinga Klivinyi was instrumental in the Vác´s revival with 13 goals.

Vistal Łączpol Gdynia managed to perform even worse as they let the quarter-finals ticket slip through their hands despite winning the first leg by twelve goals over Balonmano Bera Bera from Spain.

However, the side from Basque region inspired by ten goal show of Elisabeth Pinedo Sáez made a remarkable rally as they cut the deficit to seven goals at the half-time break and finished the chasing job successfully before the final whistle. With the aggregate score tied at 49:49 Bera Bera succeeded due to away goals rule.

The Russian title holders Dinamo Volgograd easily kept RK Zaječar at bay as the Serbian champions pushed by 2100 spectators failed to erase the eight goal deficit from the first match in Russia.

After winning the first leg in Norway 28:24 the French side Issy Paris Handball beat Stabæk Handball on the home ground as well 26:25.

The draw of the Women´s Cup Winners´ Cup Quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday, 12 February at 11:00 hrs local time at the EHF office in Vienna.

As there will be no seeding for the draw, all teams will be drawn from the same pot. In this draw, the country protection rule will not be applied: two clubs from the same country may face each other in the next round.

Directly after the quarter-finals pairings will be determined, the semi-finals draw will be carried out as well.
