Niels Hertzberg passes away

The former Secretary General of the Norwegian Handball Federation, Niels Hertzberg, died unexpectedly over the weekend 2/3 March 2013. He was 72 years old.

Hertzberg was the Secretary General of the Norwegian federation from 1984 to 2003. He was married to Marit Breivik, who was previously coach of the Norwegian national women’s team.

Tor Lian, former President of the European Handball Federation, said: “When I was elected to the EHF in the early 1990s, it was the Norwegian Handball Federation and Niels Nertzberg we looked to for advice on how to build a professional and successful federation.

“He was great man, with good ideas and very focused. He was a friend and colleague for many years and his death is a great loss for handball in Norway.”

The thoughts of the European Handball Federation are with the friends and family of Niels at this difficult time.
