The Icelandic jewel has been lured to the defending champions by the coach Alfred Gislason after he reached the VELUX EHF FINAL4 with AG København last season. |
Borut Mačkovšek (RK Celje Pivovarna Laško)
In less than two years Mačkovšek has become one of the key players in Celje and many see him as a worthy successor of the legendary sniper Aleš Pajovič on the left back position in the national team of Slovenia. He scored 20 goals against Hamburg in the Last 16. |

Matej Gaber (RK Gorenje Velenje)
He is the member of Slovenian “new wave” of rising stars and a constant part of the national team. Despite being just 21, he already became one of the most prominent line players in the European top flight. His skills could not be overlooked for too long as French powerhouse from Montpellier have already managed to sign the youngster. |
Centre Back
Daniel Narcisse (THW Kiel)
The nickname “Air France” speaks for itself as there is hardly any player in the VELUX EHF Champions League with similar jumping abilities. The reigning World Handball Player of the year can pride himself with six gold medals from top events (two each from Olympics, World Championships and EHF EURO). |
Thomas Mogensen (SG Flensburg Handewitt)
The reigning European champion announced his retirement from the national team before this season, but his great performances in the VELUX EHF Champions League might have inspired him for a comeback just in time for the home EHF EURO next January. With 46 goals he is one of the most prolific scorer on the centre back position. |
Daniel Sarmiento (FC Barcelona Intersport)
He was on the team who won the 2011 edition of the VELUX EHF Champions League and is one of seven recent world champions of Spain. His playmaker´s skills put an important signature under 62 goals of Rutenka and 41 goals of Nøddesbo in this season so far. |

Kiril Lazarov (BM Atlético Madrid)
A classic shooter from FYR Macedonia, Lazarov is the most successful scorer at a single EHF EURO event (2012 in Serbia) with 61 goals and a world championship (2009 in Croatia) with 92 goals. He was also twice top scorer of the CL and in this season he leads his team in goals before quarter-finals. |

Steffen Weinhold (SG Flensburg Handewitt)
His growing importance in the German national team was underlined last January when he was fifth in the team in time spent on the court. He transferred from Gummersbach to Flensburg before the season, just in time to fill the void after a massive injury wave in the team. |
Right Wing
Goalkeeper
Best defender
Tobias Karlsson (SG Flensburg Handewitt)
The Flensburg team captain played at the London Olympics last August where his team of Sweden won the silver medals. Last season he lifted the trophy of the last edition of the Cup Winners´ Cup with Flensburg, in this season he is one of key players of SG at the own end of the court. |
Viran Morros (FC Barcelona Intersport)
Two seasons ago he changed the club, after switching from Ciudad Real to the fiercest rivals, but his mission has remained intact – intercepting opponents’ passes, stopping their breakaways and blocking their shots. He was in charge of similar duties at the last World championship where his team won the gold medals. |
Joan Cañellas (BM Atlético Madrid)
After Morros departure from Atletico, Canellas had to overtake some of his tasks in the defence of Atlético. He was one of only two Madrid´s players on the national team last January when Spain won the gold medals at the World Championships. In this season of the VELUX EHF Champions League he proves his value on both ends of the court being not only great defender but also the second best goal scorer of his team. |
István Timuzsin Schuch (MKB Veszprém KC)
The only player in the VELUX EHF Champions League with Mongolian descent was a part of the national team of Hungary who made it to the top four of the London Olympics. The second lowest total of goals against in the Group Phase is also an evidence of Schuch´s work at organising the defence of the Hungarian champions. |
