Pytlick puts faith in experienced squad

Denmark's women's national team coach, Jan Pytlick, has nominated his squad for the two World Championship play-off matches against Turkey at the beginning of June – still bearing in mind, how much trouble his team had with the Turks in two similar play-off matches in 2009.

Back then Denmark only managed to qualify for the final tournament with two narrow wins.

"Our team was very young and inexperienced back then. In the meantime our players have gained a lot of international experience, in the national team as well as in their respective clubs.

"However, I still have a lot of respect for Turkey after having watched some videos on them. They have a very fine team, but of course we are favourites, also because we have a wider squad," Jan Pytlick told eurohandball.com.

The squad for the play-off matches which Pytlick announced Tuesday (14 May), includes debutant Søs Søby. The goalkeeper from Viborg HK is among the 22 players in the squad.

"Søs Søby is an extremely talented goalkeeper who had done very well for Viborg this season. She is obviously a keeper for the future," Jan Pytlick said.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Søs Søby (Viborg HK) Rikke Poulsen (KIF Vejen) Sandra Toft (Team Tvis Holstebro)

Left wing: Ann Grete Nørgaard (Team Tvis Holstebro) Maria Fisker (Viborg HK) Mie Augustesen (Thüringer HC)

Right wing: Maibritt Kviesgaard (FC Midtjylland) Trine Østergaard Jensen (FC Midtjylland) Anne Mette Pedersen (Ringkøbing Håndbold)

Back court players: Stine Jørgensen (Aalborg DH) Pernille Holst Larsen (Viborg HK) Anne Sofie Hjort Nielsen (Ringkøbing Håndbold) Jane Schumacher (Skive fH) Lærke Møller (FC Midtjylland) Kristina Kristiansen (Team Tvis Holstebro) Lotte Grigel (Team Esbjerg) Line Jørgensen (FC Midtjylland) Camilla Dalby (Randers HK) Louise Burgaard (Team Tvis Holstebro)

Line players: Mette Gravholt (Team Tvis Holstebro) Susan Thorsgaard (FC Midtjylland) Marianne Bonde Pedersen (FIF)

The squad will gather in Copenhagen on 27 May 2013 for a short training camp, and on May 29 the 16 players who are going to play the first leg in Ankara (2 June) will be leaving for Turkey.

From 3 June the squad will be gathered in Aarhus, where the second leg is being played on 8 June.
