One half of the best goalkeeping duo in Europe speaks about working with his teammate and the VELUX EHF FINAL4
Šarić: "We have to step up at the right moment"
The experienced goalkeeper from Bosnia and Herzegovina even managed to score a goal in the 2011 final against Ciudad Real, which was Barcelona's first EHF Champions League win in six years.
This is his fourth season in the Catalan capital, and the former member of Cantabria, Ademar Leon and Portland San Antonio is still going strong. The 5-year-old speaks to ehfCL.com about his exceptional goalkeeping partnership with Arpad Sterbik.
ehfCL.com: When two goalkeepers at this level play in the same team. Does it mean a bigger responsibility?
Danijel Šarić: Yes it does. We share the goal during the whole season and each one needs to take advantage regarding the minutes that we have.
ehfCL.com: You both are from former Yugoslavia, now you are playing in the same team and even you will share the same room in Cologne during the VELUX EHF FINAL4. Are there more things what you have in common? And what are the biggest differences?
Danijel Šarić: We are quiet people and always try to bring a good atmosphere inside the locker room.
As for the differences? Well, we speak Serbian with different accent.
ehfCL.com: Have you learned any lessons from your goalkeeping partner this season?
Danijel Šarić: I always try to learn from Arpad. He has a long career and I constantly want to get details about my teammates.
ehfCL.com: Do you and Arpad plan who will be in goal in every match?
Danijel Šarić: No, that is always a coach’s decision.
ehfCL.com: The shooting level at the VELUX EHF FINAL4 is outstanding. Do you think goalkeeping will have much to do with the final result?
Danijel Šarić: For me, the save percentage is not important. It is more important that we step up in the right moment of a game.
