Important regulations for the EHF EURO 2014 qualification

The EHF Executive agreed in its meeting in January 2012 that as well as the first two teams from each of the seven qualification groups, also the best third ranked team from all seven groups will qualify for the Men's EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark.

This team is determined the following way:

After the conclusion of all qualification matches in the seven groups on 16 June, a ranking of the teams ranked third in each group (overall seven teams) will be established. 

This ranking will include only the results of those four matches the third ranked team played against the teams ranked first and second in the group.

Matches against the teams ranked fourth in group will not be considered.

The best team from this ranking of the third ranked teams will qualify for the Men's EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark.

Play-off matches for the qualification to the EHF EURO 2016 in Poland

After the matches for the Men's EHF EURO 2014 Qualification Phase 2 have been finalised, the three winners of the EHF EURO 2016 Qualification Phase 1 will play two play-off matches (2/3 April and 5/6 April 2014) against the three lowest ranked fourth placed teams from all seven groups in EHF EURO 2014 Qualification Phase 2.

The winners of these play-off matches will join the other already qualified remaining participants to the EHF EURO 2016 Qualification Phase 2.

The three lowest fourth ranked teams of all seven groups of the Men's EHF EURO 2014 Qualification Phase 2 will be decided by taking into consideration all results of the respective group:

1) higher number of points obtained in the group

2) superior goal difference from all group matches (achieved by subtraction)

3) higher number of goals scored in all group matches

4) if this procedure does not lead to a decision the EHF Men's National Team Ranking must decide

5) if classification is still not possible, a draw shall decide the ranking
