Norway's number two secure a new coach
Mogensen keen to help Byåsen progress
Claus Leth Mogensen is the new head coach of Norwegian side Byåsen Håndball Elite. The Dane, who has coached the likes of Danish league clubs Horsens HK and SK Aarhus, has signed a three-year contract with the Norwegian league runners-up.
Hit first challenge will be to try and qualify the team for the Women’s EHF Champions League Group Matches.
Byåsen have been the perennial number two in Norway behind Larvik, who have been more or less untouchable in the national league.
“That will probably still be the case for some time, but I hope we can create a structure in Byåsen to change that pattern over time.
“Byåsen is a club with a large ability to develop new talents and some of the former key players, who have left for foreign careers, have a tendency to come back to Trondheim at some point, so I see a lot of potential in the team,” Claus Mogensen told ehfCL.com.
The new coach is also relishing the battle for qualification.
“Qualifying for the Champions League will be an interesting challenge, difficult but not impossible. In Byåsen, we still have a number of players with considerable international experience and if we can even get the home advantage in our qualification group, the chance is definitely there,” added Mogensen.
Byåsen will be in pot 1 for the Women’s EHF Champions League qualification draw, which will take place on Thursday, 27 June at 14:00 hrs. at the EHF Office in Vienna.
