Bager Due makes comeback with Holstebro

Former Danish national team goalkeeper Louise Bager Due is set for a return to the handball court.

However, it will not be with Viborg HK, where she played for 11 years, but for Viborg´s rivals in the Women’s EHF Champions League qualifiers, Team Tvis Holstebro.

31-year-old Louise Bager Due ended her career in the spring 2012 due to pregnancy, but now she has signed a contract with Holstebro, valid until December 1 this year.

Holstebro are in serious need of goalkeepers, as Danish international Sandra Toft and Marianne Lundsby have both suffered long-term injuries.

During their absence, Bager Due and Henriette Dahl, who is returning from 1. Division club Ringkøbing, are going to form the goalkeeper duo in the team.

“I am really looking forward to resuming my career. I played 11 years in Viborg, and I am looking very much forward to trying to play for another club and to help Holstebro.

“I am anxious to see where I stand after two pregnancies. I am going to spend the summer trying to get back to top shape, but I have no old injuries to bother me,” Bager Due told Team Tvis Holstebro´s website.

“With Sandra sidelined for another three or four months, and with Marianne out until January, it was clear to us that we needed a goalkeeper from the top shelf, and I fail to see that we could have got any one better than Louise who is among the best keepers Denmark have ever had.

“Furthermore, she comes with a lot of experience and will be easily integrated in a team who are going to play qualification matches for the Champions League among other things,” Team Tvis Holstebro´s head coach Niels Agesen said about his new goalkeeper.

One of Louise Bager Due´s first tasks with her new club will be the qualification tournament for the Women’s EHF Champions League, where one of Holstebro´s competitors in their battle for a place in the Group Matches will be none other than her former club Viborg HK.
