EHF Vice President visits Youth Coaches Course in Gdansk

Parallel to the Women's 17 EHF EURO in Poland the European Handball Federation and its Competence and Academy Network (CAN) had organised a four-day training course for youth coaches.

On Wednesday, the seminar's final day, EHF Vice President Arne Elovsson paid the more than 60 participants a visit.

In its initiative to strengthen women's handball in Europe, to expand their knowledge and expertise of the sport and to increase the number of competent women in key positions, the EHF's Women's Handball Board had covered the participation costs and travel fees for seven female coaches who steered their team through either the qualification for the Women's 19 or the Women's 17 EHF EURO.

While meeting them, Elovsson expressed the EHF's full support for the future development of women's handball, saying the the EHF is aiming to further strengthen the sport and awarding the seven coaches also - as a small gift - with a T-shirt that reads "Handball is in my heart."

Elovsson also thanked all participants, presenters and the organisers of the course for their participation.

The Vice President's visit concluded with meeting Slovakian player Martina Blehova. The middle back sustained a severe injury in the group match against Hungary (18 August) which left her unconscious for a very short time.

However, she quickly recovered and has already left the hospital.

"I want to wish you the best on the court and I'm glad that everything is OK" said Elovsson presenting Blehova with a backpack and a T-shirt on behalf of the EHF just hours before Slovakia met with Czech Republic on Wednesday (21 August).

"I am happy that I am with my team again. I want to help them achieve the best result at this tournament," said Blehova.
