Jankowski departs Lublin

MKS Lublin’s coach Edward Jankowski has been relieved of his duties, as confirmed by the club’s official site.

“The decision to cancel Edward Jankowski’s contract was a mutual decision. The reason for this change is Edward Jankowski’s health problems, which prevent him from training and leading the team in matches on the level we want,” said club president Michał Jastrzębski.

Lublin struggled at the start of their Women's EHF Champions League campaign, with three defeats in Group B against Buducnost, FC Midtjylland and FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria.

Last season, Jankowski's team secured the Polish championship, beating KGHM Metraco Zagłębie Lubin in the final, giving them direct qualification to the group matches.

Edward Jankowski began at the club as assistant coach in 1996. He then moved to Jelenia Góra, where he led Virtal in 2001-03, before returning to Lublin.

Assistant coach and former Lublin player, Sabina Włodek has stepped up to be head coach in the wake of Edward Jankowski’s departure, while Jastrębski quelled rumours that talks with a coach from Denmark were taking place.
