Jørgensen: We should not take anything for granted

Stine Jørgensen joined FC Midtjylland from league colleagues Aalborg DH at the beginning of the season and from the start the 23-year-old left back has become a key player for the Danish champions, just like she is in the Danish national team.

So far she has scored 16 goals in Europe’s elite competition, where FCM are currently in second position in Group B. Although she and her team stand a good chance at proceeding to the main round, Stine Jørgensen is not getting ahead of herself.

ehfCL.com: What has it been like for you since joining FC Midtjylland?

Stine Jørgensen: It has been really great. I have been received very well and it has also been good for me to join a top team and a team playing in the Champions League

ehfCL.com: What has joining FC Midtjylland meant for your game?

Stine Jørgensen: I have developed a lot, not least from playing the Champions League matches. Furthermore, there is a much keener competition for the positions in the team here than I was used to and that has developed me too.

ehfCL.com: Can you point out any specific aspect of you play, where you have benefitted in particular?

Stine Jørgensen: I would say that my defensive play has improved a lot, as we really learn to use our physical strength here, and that has been good for me.

ehfCL.com: You mentioned competition earlier. When it comes to the attack, that competition has been reduced lately, as Lærke Møller´s knee injury means that your team has one back court player less than usual. What has that meant to the team, do you think?

Stine Jørgensen: Of course, it is sad that Lærke is injured, and it handicaps us a bit from time to time that we cannot make as many substitutions as we would like to, but it simply means that the rest of us have to work a bit harder.

ehfCL.com: What does the reduced number of back court players mean to you personally? Does it put a heavier pressure on you, or do you like the extra responsibility?

Stine Jørgensen: I simply love the responsibility. It is responsibility which really develops you as a handball player and I just find it cool to receive all the responsibility and confidence I get.

ehfCL.com: You joined FC Midtjylland with some previous Champions League experience from your former club Aalborg DH. Have you been able to benefit from that in your new club?

Stine Jørgensen: Not really. My Champions League matches with Aalborg were four years ago, when I was actually still a youngster. It is something entirely different today, so I do not think you can compare that.

ehfCL.com: You started with a nine goal win at home against FTC-Rail Cargo. Then you won by one after a very difficult away match against Lublin, only to finish the first half of the group phase be defeating Buducnost at home – and last weekend, then, you suffered you first defat, as clearly as 22:15 away against Buducnost. Is your team a bit inconsistent?

Stine Jørgensen: I think that it is simply a question of the difference between playing at home and playing away. Buducost were much sharper at home, than we were. You simply feel more secure when you play at home.

ehfCL.com: Despite the defeat in Montenegro, you are still in a fine position to qualify for the main round. Do you expect to proceed to the last eight?

Stine Jørgensen: I do not expect it, I hope for it. You should not take anything for granted, but I think we have a good chance.
