NEWS REPORT: Head coach Ulrik Wilbek appointed Klavs Bruun Jorgensen as new assist coach for the upcoming EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark
A new man on the Danish bench
When the Men's EHF EURO 2014 throws off on 12 January, there will be new man taking place on the bench next to head coach Ulrik Wilbek.
Henrik Kronborg, the Danish team's regular assistant, had to undergo two herniated disc surgerys in the past couple of months and he is still in the recovery process, the Danish Handball Association said.
The 43-year-old therefore won't be able to participate at the event in January.
However, replacement was swiftly found as Wilbek has chosen 39-year-old Klavs Bruun Jorgensen for the job, and the current coach of Danish side Team Tvis Holstebro accepted the offer.
"For me it was a natural choice to ask Klavs," Wilbek says.
"First of all his time as a player on international level dates not that far back in time, and on top of that he has already proven himself to be an extremely talented coach – both at Team Tvis Holstebro and before that when he, together with Soren Herskind, led AG Kobenhavn to the Champions League FINAL4 in 2012."
As an active player left-handed Klavs Bruun Jorgensen played 185 international matches for Denmark scoring 440 goals.
He participated at EHF European Championships in 2002 and 2004 and was also in the Danish team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
His last active appearance at international level was at the World Championship 2009 at which Denmark came fourth.
