Neagu and Cvijic stick with Buducnost

While Budućnost finish their preparation for the Women’s EHF Champions League Main Round and Saturday’s game in Hungary against Györi Audi ETO KC, the club’s management is already planning for next season.

Romanian Cristina Neagu and Serbian Dragana Cvijic both signed one-year contracts with the Montenegrian champions on Tuesday, meaning they will play in Podgorica at least until the end of the 2014/15 season.

23-year-old Dragana Cvijic joined Budućnost in the summer of 2011 from Slovenian side Krim Mercator and managed to win Europe’s top flight in her first season in Podgorica.

In this season’s group matches she scored 14 goals and has also just won silver with Serbia at the World Championship last December.

Cristina Neagu (25) transferred to Budućnost last summer from C.S. Oltchim Rm. Valcea. After a rehabilitation period, due to a knee injury, in the first part of the season, the Romanian star showed she is on track to becoming one of the world’s top players again.

The World Handball Player of the Year 2010 scored 23 goals in the group matches in Europe this season.

At the World Championship in Serbia, Neagu scored 29 goals in six games, before Romania were eliminated in the Last 16 by Poland.

"I'm glad that they have found themselves in our club, and believe that with Budućnost they can achieve their goals in the sport. The ideas of the club and these top players match, which makes me happy as a coach.

"I believe that Budućnost will be even better than this year, because they are still young players, who can improve and contribute even more to the club to be back on the top of European handball again,” Buducnost’s coach Dragan Adzic told ehfCL.com.
