For both sides this match is more than just a test match as they entered the road towards the World Championship 2015 Play-offs in which Austria face Norway and Germany meet Poland in June 2014 to battle it out for a spot at the final tournament in Qatar.
The most recent match was won by Austria 29:28 on 3 January in Dortmund, Germany.
"Last time we had a bad start to the game. We weren’t on the court to 100 per cent and didn’t use the chances we had," says Germany’s Oliver Roggisch. The 35-year-old is one of the stars in the German team at the Multiversum in Schwechat alongside key players such as goalkeeper Silvio Heinevetter and left wing Dominik Klein.
"It was a deserved victory for Austria. Therefore we have to commit fewer mistakes and score more. Of course, such a duel is always appealing, but all what counts is our preparation for the World Championship Play-off against Poland," says Roggisch.
Austria can count on very much the same squad that reached the main round at the EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark. Only Patrick Fölser and Conny Wilczynski finished their careers, Viktor Szilagyi will miss out on this match.
"We want to prepare well and know that we need hard work for this. The EURO was a great success for handball in Europe, but that’s a thing of the past. We are not living in the past. All what counts is the task ahead," says Austria's head coach Patrekur Johannesson.
