Obradovic takes over Montenegro's men's national team

NEWS REPORT: The experienced Serbian coach, who is also in charge of VELUX EHF Champions League participants FC Porto, succeeds Zoran Kastratovic

Obradovic takes over Montenegro's men's national team

Ljubomir Obradovic has been appointed as new Montenegro men’s team head coach.

The experienced Serbian coach will stay at the team’s helm at least until the end of the 2015/16 season including the 2016 Olympic Games, a statement issued by the Montenegro Handball Federation read.

Obradovic succeeds Zoran Kastratovic, the most successful coach in the men’s national team history. Kastratovic and Montenegro only went separate ways at the end of February.

"We were obliged to find a replacement for Kastratovic as soon as posible since we don’t have too much time before the national team week and we did it," Predrag Boskovic, the federation’s president, told eurohandball.com.

"For us Obradovic was logical choice since we know him from long time ago."

Obradovic returns to Montenegro after almost five years abroad. His last triumph in Montenegro was the national cup he lifted with Lovcen in the 2008/09 season.

After that he went to Portugal where he has been coaching the nation’s handball powerhouse and this year’s VELUX EHF Champions League participants, FC Porto.

His first main task as head coach of Montenegro will be the World Championship 2015 Play-offs in June when his teams faces Belarus in a repetition of the Group D encounter at the EHF EURO 2014, which ended 29:23 in favour of Belarus.

The agreement between Obradovic and the federation is that he will continue coaching FC Porto.

His biggest success as a coach to date is the first place at the Men’s 20 EHF EURO 2000 with Yugoslavia.
