Fine lowered for the Netherlands Handball Federation

The EHF Court of Appeal has released its decision in the case of the Netherlands Handball Federation regarding their withdrawal in June 2012 from the organisation of the 2012 Women’s EHF European Championship.

The body of second instance has partially accepted the appeal of the Netherlands Handball Federation against the ruling of the EHF Court of Handball.

The federation should pay a fine of €250,000 (two hundred fifty thousand Euro), according to article D.5 of the EHF List of Penalties and on the basis that the late withdrawal from EHF EURO 2012 constituted a serious breach of the EHF statutes and regulations and damaged the image of both the sport and the event.

The suspension from the organisation of any EHF national team competitions until December 2016 is confirmed by the EHF Court of Appeal, in application of articles 12.3 and 14 of the EHF Legal Regulations.

Finally, the EHF Court of Appeal has set to €87,972.40 (eighty-seven thousand nine hundred seventy-two Euro and forty cents), the amount of additional costs and expenses to be reimbursed by the federation to the EHF, in application of article 12.4 of the EHF Legal Regulations.

According to the EHF legal regulations, the Netherlands Handball Federation may bring the decision to the EHF Court of Arbitration within twenty-one (21) days (i.e. until 18 April 2014) for final arbitration proceedings.
