Court of Appeal confirms Zorman ban

The decision of the EHF Court of Appeal confirmed the three-match ban (one match being imposed on a suspended basis) for Uros Zorman, imposed by the EHF Court of Handball on 15 May 2014.

The Slovenian Handball Federation had filed an appeal on 20 May 2014 against the decision of the EHF Court of Handball dated 15 May 2014, requesting the body of second instance to impose a more lenient sanction on the player Uros Zorman especially in light of the circumstances and the previous decisions of the EHF Legal bodies.

The EHF Court of Appeal has rejected the appeal and confirmed the decision of the EHF Court of Handball, finding that the decision of first instance was adequate and proportionate to the behaviour of the player which led to his direct disqualification in the 46th minute of the Men’s World Championship 2015 Qualification Europe match Slovenia versus Ukraine which took place on 12 January 2014.

Regarding the arguments of the appellant related to the previous decisions of the EHF Legal bodies, the EHF Court of Appeal found that although the EHF Legal bodies enforce consistent and equal jurisdiction, every individual situation must be appreciated on a case-by-case basis according to the existing rules and regulations without being bound by previous decisions taken in particular cases.

Consequently, the sanction of the player cannot be deduced from sanctions imposed on other players in different cases. A recourse to the ECA is possible within 21 days but shall not have any suspensive effect.
