Decision awaits in Brno

The last and decisive round of the Women’s EHF EURO qualification starts with three matches on Saturday.

While two already qualified teams fight for the top spot in their respective groups, one neighbour’s duel will decide who the second team to qualify from Group 3 becomes.

All matches can be followed with the EHF live ticker. ehfTV streams Czech Republic vs. Poland live.

Group 3: Czech Republic vs. Poland
Saturday, 11:25 hrs. local time in Brno
(live on ehfTV.com)

What is it going to be? A happy day full of handball, half a happy day, or a simple disaster?

Everything is possible when both the Czech women’s and the men’s national team take to the court in Brno on Saturday.

While the men’s team has to catch up with an eight-goal deficit in the World Championship 2015 Play-off against Serbia, the women’s team is in a clearly better position.

They are two points ahead of the Polish side before the team’s direct duel for the second spot in Qualification Group 3.

Czech Republic can even afford to lose this match against the World Championship 2013 semi-finalists by two goals courtesy of their 22:19 away win in the first leg.

If Poland want to make it to the EHF EURO, they need to win by three goals, provided that they score more away goals than the 22 Czech Republic scored in the first leg.*

Group 4: Spain vs. Italy
Saturday, 17:30 hrs. local time in Ciudad Real

Spain are already through to the final tournament, Italy fought bravely on Thursday against the Netherlands, but still have no points on their account.

Spain can secure the top spot in this group with a victory, which might be a decisive factor for the final tournament draw on Thursday, 19 June (13:00 hrs local time) in Zagreb.

Netherlands have lost the direct encounter against Spain and can only hope to top the group if Spain do not win against Italy.

Group 7: Germany vs. FYR Macedonia
Saturday, 12:30 hrs. local time in Magdeburg

It is the same situation as in Group 4: After their hard-fought 23:21 victory in the first leg on Wednesday, Germany are already qualified for the final tournament.

However, if they beat FYR Macedonia again, they will be confirmed as group winners.

Similar to the day in Brno, this match is the start of a double feature in Magdeburg including the men’s play-off against Poland for the World Championship 2015 ticket.

*An earlier version of this text read that Poland need to score at least four goals, if they want to make it to the EHF EURO. This paragraph has been corrected.
