Men's 20 EHF EURO by the numbers

With nine days to go until the first throw-off at the Men's 20 EHF EURO 2014 in Austria, eurohandball.com had a look at the numeric details of the final tournament.

1 to 2 - number of jerseys torn apart per training session of the Austrain junior national team

5 - number of times Austria has hosted a European Championship to date. Apart from the Men's 20 EHF EURO, Austria also hosted the Junior European Championships in 1998 and 2006, the Men's EHF EURO in 2010 and the Youth European Championship in 2012.

7 - rolls of normal tape and elastic therapeutic tape the Austrian junior national team uses per day

8 - number of playing days at the Men's 20 EHF EURO

10 - this is the tenth edition of the Men's 20 EHF EURO

16 - number of nations that have qualified for the final tournament

20 - number of referees nominated for the event

22 - number of nations represented by the officials and players at the Men's 20 EHF EURO

56 - number of games played until the European champions will be known

200 - number of volunteers working at the event

360 - number of players participating at the final tournament

400 - area in square metres covered by catch nets in each of the two playing halls

1,144 - area in square metres covered by Gerflor handball floor in the two playing halls in Linz and Traun

6,000 - number of overall overnight stays of all officials and players for the time of the tournament

14,000 - weight in kilos of the Gerflor handball floor installed in the two playing halls

14,500 - number of meals served to players and officials for the time of the tournament

22,000 - amount of water in litres available to the teams for the games and training sessions

Tournament information

The Men’s 20 EHF EURO takes place in the Austrian cities of Linz and Traun from 24 July to 3 August 2014. For more information visit the official website and the event’s Facebook page.

Over the next week and during the tournament eurohandball.com and the EHF EURO Facebook page will also feature regular reports, features and photo galleries.

Austria also hosted the Men’s 18 EHF EURO 2012 when the same generation of players took to the court. Back then Germany won, Sweden came second and Denmark placed third. Austria finished sixth.

The previous Men’s 20 EHF EURO took place in Turkey in 2012. Spain won ahead of Croatia and Slovenia. Austria had not qualified.
