Goalkeeping stars meet talents again

Over 100 handball goalkeepers took part at the fourth edition of the international camp in Tucepi and Makarska, two summer resorts in Croatia.
World class goalkeepers past and present and experienced coaches visited the camp to meet the younger goalkeepers and to give them theoretical and practical help for their future professional development.

This summer’s list of biggest stars included Marin Sego, the new signing of Vive Targi Kielce, Nebojsa Grahovac, the first goalie of Bosnia and Herzegovina national team or Mirko Basic, the legendary Olympic and World champion with former Yugoslavia.

Also coaches responsible for performances of ZRK Buducnost and ZRK Vardar goalkeepers, Vlatko Djonovic respectively Vladimir Vujovic participated.

“It is really nice to see a lot of young goalies who are attracted by this project. Individual trainings are very important, no doubt, but here at the camp they can see a lot of different types of practice and styles. That is a huge thing for young athletes who want to become professionals,” said Buducnost’s assistant coach Djonovic, who is very satisfied with the previous season of his team at the Women’s EHF Champions League.

“I am happy with the team’s performance, but also with individual achievements of Clara Woltering, Marta Zderic and Marina Vukcevic. Buducnost will try once again to reach the final in the upcoming season,” he promised.

There are a lot of differences between a work with top goalkeepers and young goalies.

“We have already goalies in our teams with certain habits and styles. You cannot teach them from the scratch, as you can do with some beginners. That is why this kind of training is much different to what we do in our teams,” added Vardar’s Vujović.

Differences between Balkan and Scandinavian goalkeeping schools were the main reason why Filippa Idehn and Johanna Bundsen, two Women’s EHF Champions League goalies of Sweden’s Sävehof were among participants from over 15 countries. They came to the Adriatic coast with their club’s coach Fikret Handan.

“They wanted to learn something new and experience how other goalkeeping schools work,” explained Handan.

Marin Sego, who transferred to Kielce this summer also praised the event, where goalkeepers from Senegal to Finland work together.

“It is a real pleasure to be with this group of coaches and goalie’s legends. Days here are refreshing, they give some new energy and inspiration. I have found out many interesting exercises. You can always learn something new,” concluded Sego.
