Congress votes to leave competition fees unchanged

Friday at the EHF Congress in Dublin concluded with the voting on a number of motions relating to finances.

With a majority of 93,5 per cent of votes the Congress agreed to the motion that there will be, as in the past, no membership fees.

At the same time the Congress did not approve a motion by the EHF proposing a general increase of the competition fees by 25 per cent.

According to the motion, competition fees have been left unchanged since the 1998/99 season, while the consumer price index has increased by 37 per cent in the past 15 years.

A motion submitted by the handball federation of the Faroe Islands was withdrawn. The federation had moved to increase the compensation for delegates and referees in EHF competitions, presenting a model which foresaw a a gradual percental increase.

The Congress approved the budget presented for the years 2015/16 with a majority of 84,4 per cent of votes.

Motion on overall sponsorship rights referred to the Executive Committee

Just before the Congress dealt with a proposal from the EHF, presented by Secretary General Michael Wiederer, relating to the introduction of an overall sponsorship concept for the EHF, allowing the EHF to offer major sponsors overall sponsorship rights across all competitions and not limited to individual competitions and events.

Following an intervention asking for the concept to be debated in more detail in bodies such as the Nations Board. The EHF subsequently withdrew the original proposal and Congress agreed to a revised proposal that the task should be referred to the EHF Executive Committee.

Finally, Congress agreed to proposals from the EHF relating to sports organisers' right to consent to bets and a change to the EHF legal regulations, which will allow an event’s tournament management to initiate proceedings.
