Young reporters join EHF Media Team at upcoming Women’s European Championship

The next intake of young reporters to join the EHF Media Team working at the Women’s EHF European Handball Championship in Hungary and Croatia in December 2014 has been selected.

First launched at the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark in January, the EHF Young Reporter Programme offers young media professionals the chance to gain experience working with the EHF Media and Communications team at the biggest events in handball.

Almost 70 applications were received by the EHF Media and Communications Department which then had the difficult task of selecting a group of eight, with the final choice being an international and media-savvy group coming from Hungary, Croatia, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The young reporters will work alongside professional media staff and journalists interviewing players and covering press conferences as well as producing their own stories around the event.

There will also be a focus on digital reporting, multimedia storytelling and social media.

“First we see this programme as a true investment in the future media coverage of handball. We’ll be working together with young media professionals, who are just at the very start of their career, giving them the opportunity to cover and experience one of the biggest handball events in the world,” says JJ Rowland, EHF Head of Media and Communications.

"Second we see this as a step to increase and improve the media services we can offer to the accredited media and the fans alike.

"The interviews from the mixed zone and the press conference highlights will be provided via a portal site to the international media for immediate use in their copy.

"The young reporters’ additional reporting will lift our event coverage to a new level with insights and a variety of reports on numerous channels that we didn’t offer before."

Cooperation with European Broadcasting Union continues

Already at this year’s VELUX EHF FINAL4 the EHF had joined forces with the European Broadcasting Union with experienced radio journalist Karoline Zobernig, who had previously participated in the EBU’s young radio reporter programmme, strengthening the EHF team at the event in Cologne.

This successful cooperation is now continued with another participant coming through the ranks of the EBU’s programme and joining the young reporters at the Women’s EHF EURO 2014.

Her work will also be shared on EURORADIO Sports Exchange, the online platform that allows the upload and download of audio news files for the benefit of the EBU’s member stations.

"We’re going through an incredible period of technological change which offers new storytelling possibilities from and for young people. It is fascinating to support and guide emerging talent coming from our membership through attractive events organised by international sport federations that believe in their creativity," says EURORADIO Project Coordinator Christophe Pasquier.
