NEWS REPORT: Győr left back Eduarda Amorim ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament while on international duty and will be sidelined for about six months
Győr’s Amorim suffers serious knee injury
Women’s EHF Champions League holders Győr suffered yet another blow as world class left back Eduarda Amorim suffered a serious injury. According to the first medical examinations the Brazilian world champion suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
Amorim was at a friendly tournament in Malaga with the Brazilian national team, on Friday the world champions took on Tunisia. Seven minutes after the start after the start of the game Amorim broke in to score a goal but landed with her knee in a twisted position.
Video footage shows the world class right back in major discomfort upon leaving the court and it was immediately clear it was not just a sprain.
Amorim was taken to hospital and according to Brazilian sources the initial examination proved she injured her cruciate ligament. It seemed that an operation was inevitable and an MRI scan on Saturday morning verified the initial diagnosis. Amorim will be sidelined for approximately six months.
Győr could now field a Champions League contender team from their sidelined players: Anita Görbicz and Katrine Lunde are pregnant while summer signing Susan Müller and Adrienn Orbán suffered injuries at the beginning of the current season.
