Norway stride towards semi-final, Hungary maintain hope

After Russia, Ukraine, Croatia and Serbia exited the Women's EHF EURO 2014 the main round started in the the Fönix Hall in Debrecen, Hungary with the first matches of Group I.

Fans were treated to a spectacular show when Norway defeated Spain 29:26. With the maximum of six points on their account the EHF EURO record winners are already close to qualifying for the semi-finals in Budapest on 19 October, while Spain, who suffered their first defeat at the tournament remain on four points.

Hungary's hopes of reaching the semi-final at the EHF EURO are still alive after a narrow 20:19 win against Romania. Hungarian goalkeeper Eva Kiss' save of Cristina Neagu free throw in the dying seconds of the match kept Hungary's dreams alive.

The result sees Hungary moving up to third rank in Group I with four points, while Romania are fifth ranked with one point.

Poland were only able to keep up with Denmark for the first 38 minutes of the game when the two teams met in the first match in Debrecen on Saturday. When the scored stood at 12:12 with 22 minutes left to play, the Danes powered away and Poland were eventually left empty-handed.
