Germany part ways with women's head coach Heine Jensen

Following a disappointing 10th place at the EHF EURO 2014 the German Handball Federation has cancelled the contract with its women's head coach Heine Jensen.

"Already in Zagreb (at the EHF EURO) and in the tournament's aftermath we have talked to the coaches and the players, analysing the games the team played in 2014. Unfortunately, we weren't able to see any progress," said Bernhard Bauer, President of the German Handball Federation, on Wednesday.

"That's why both parties in mutual consent decided to cancel Heine Jensen's contract."

Jensen had been in charge of Germany's women's national team since early 2011. He led the team to seventh at the EHF EURO 2012 and to the quarter-finals at the Women's World Championship 2013.

"I really enjoyed and it was an honour for me working with this team and for the German Handball Federation, but following the disappointing EURO this team needs some new impetus," said the 37-year-old Jensen.

"I'm thankful for the the chance that I got as a young coach back in 2011.

"I wish the federation and the team all best for a possible Olympic qualication and the World Championship 2017 in Germany."

Heine Eriksen leads Danish women's team until 1 June

In the meantime the Danish Handball Federation has found an interim replacement for former women's head coach Jan Pytlick, whose contract was cancelled already in late December after Denmark failed to the reach the semi-final at the EHF EURO.

Heine Eriksen, who so far has been responsible for Denmark women's under-17 team, will take over until 1 June.

"The process of finding a new coach for the women's team has started well, and with Heine Eriksen we have found the perfect interim solution," said the DHF's sports director Ulrik Wilbek.

Denmark hosts the next edition of the Women's World Championship from 5 to 20 December this year.
