NEWS REPORT: The contract of the world class goalkeeper expires in July 2015 and she will not take the option of an extra year
Lunde set to leave Győr
Györi Audi ETO confirmed on their official website that Katrine Lunde will not take the optional extra year of her contract that expires in July 2015 and will leave the club. The world class goalkeeper made the decision herself.
One last blast
”I am grateful for all the people, sponsors and fans for the marvellous moments I had in Győr, especially the two Champions League trophies.
”However, I am also excited about the future handball challenges after we hopefully close this season with yet another success in the FINAL4,” Lunde announced on the club’s official website.
Lunde arrived to Györ as a two-time EHF Champions League winner and added two more triumphs to her tally since 2010. The Norwegian star played a huge part in Györ’s success as the Hungarian outfit had chased an international trophy in vain for a long time before her arrival.
Chairman Ernő Kelecsényi refused to say goodbye to Lunde just yet: “The current season is far from over and I firmly believe that we can wave goodbye to each other with one last successful campaign.”
Big loss for title holders
Kelecsényi claimed that he is devastated both as Győr’s chairman and as a fan. “It has been very difficult to replace Katrine since we learned that she is expecting a baby but we have been trying to find a way to make her stay.”
”At Győr we always try to treat our players the way world class players are supposed to be treated as one might expect from the EHF Champions League holders. With this in mind we also tried to persuade Katrine to stay.”
The 34-year-old won each and every Hungarian trophy since her arrival, while on international level she won two EHF Champions League trophies.
