GROUP 2 MATCH REVIEW: Györ take another two points, after a clear 26:18 win against HCM Baia Mare...
Experience lifts Györ past Baia Mare
After a painful loss against Larvik HK in the last round this win acted like a catalyst for a perfect wake-up call for the titleholders.
Györ understood the message perfectly and bounced back in style with a straightforward 26:18 win against HCM Baia Mare in the Women’s EHF Champions League Group 2 head-to-head.
GROUP 2
HCM Baia Mare (ROU) vs Györi Audi ETO KC (HUN) 18:26 (9:13)
Baia Mare’s grand ambitions for the Main Round were thwarted by the Hungarian powerhouse as Györ took the lead early and never looked back.
A classic 6-0 defence proved to be rock-solid for Martin Ambros’ side, while the hosts struggled to score.
Key misses from Elisei, Gjorgjievska and Do Nascimento allowed Györ to take a three-goal lead in the 25th minute (10:7).
It went from bad to worse for the Romanian champions; a slow and predictable offense was Györ’s cup of tea who preyed on Baia Mare’s mistakes with fast counter-attacks.
But the Hungarian side could never have extended the lead without an excellent outing from Susann Müller.
The top scorer of the World Championship 2013 was Györ’s best player with 8 goals, followed closely by Heidi Loke who closed the game with seven goals to her name.
The final score reading 26:18 was maybe slightly flattering for the Hungarian side after they scored four unanswered goals in the last three minutes.
Györ’s experience and ability to close a game, even without Görbicz or Amorim, was the key for them taking the two points.
