VELUX EHF Champions League Group B
FC Barcelona (ESP) vs KIF Kolding Kobenhavn (DEN) 33:27 (19:11)
KIF Kolding Kobenhavn were only able to follow FC Barcelona for the first few minutes up until the score read 4:4.
From then on Barcelona virtually steamrolled their opponents.
Barcelona’s fast and powerful attacking play combined with their well-known counter attack proved completely impossible to pin down for Kolding.
Barcelona went from 4:4 to 8:4 in a hurry and later to 10:5.
Kolding managed a brief fightback to pull it to 11:9, but Barcelona increased their pace once again and went ahead by five.
Five two minute suspensions in the first half alone did not make it any easier for Kolding to stay in the game, and despite loud support from the many Danish fans in Palau Blaugrana, the visitors could not keep up with their opponents who were leading by eight goals already at half-time thanks to the constant attacking threat of their powerful back court and birthday boy Victor Tomas on the right wing.
It did not take Barcelona long in the second half to increase their lead to ten goals, and for the rest of the match it was only a question of the size of the Barcelona win.
A little lack of concentration among the Barcelona players in the last quarter of an hour allowed Kolding to reduce the gap to five goals, before the gap was settled at six goals in the end.
While the result means that Barcelona are winners of the group, KIF Kolding Kobenhavn can still secure second place with a home win against Alingsas HK on the final match day.
