Record international Breivang brings Norway career to an end

A legend is bidding farewell to international handball. Karoline Dyhre Breivang has decided to end her career in the Norwegian national team.

With 305 internationals, the 34-year-old versatile back court player holds the national record not only in handball but in all Norwegian sports teams.

“After 14 fantastic years as a handball player for Norway, I have decided to end my national team career.

“It has not been an easy decision, but after another EHF EURO gold, as captain and with the record in internationals, I think this is a suitable time,” Karoline Dyhre Breivang explained to the Norwegian Handball Federation’s official website.

Winning the EHF EURO 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2014, Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012 as well as the World Championship in 2011 amount to the triumphs Breivang has played her part in during her long career for Norway.

Although Karoline Dyhre Breivang is ending her national team career, she will not be calling time at club level just yet.

For the time being, she is continuing her career with Larvik, with whom she has already qualified for the quarter-finals of the Women’s EHF Champions League.

“I am still motivated to play handball at a high club level.

“At the same time I want to make use of the competences I have gained in communication and team building also away from the handball court. Finding a suitable job for the day I put away my handball shoes, will therefore also be on my mind,” concluded Breivang.
