The political situation between the two countries involved has led the European Handball Federation to reschedule the match in question from April to June 2015
EHF postpones EHF EURO qualifier between Russia and Ukraine
In the light of the political situation between Russia and Ukraine, the European Handball Federation has decided to postpone the EHF EURO 2016 Qualification match in Group 5 between Russia and Ukraine from 28 April to June 2015.
"The EHF as the governing body of European handball is giving top priority to the safe and secure carrying out of matches with a minimum influence of political issues and definitely not offering any possibility whatsoever to any party outside of handball to use our sport for non‐sport related interests," a statement that has been issued to the Russian as well as the Ukrainian Handball Federation reads.
"Taking this into consideration the EHF is not in the position to confirm the carrying out of matches between Russia and Ukraine in any of the two countries for the time being.
"The EHF therefore postpones the match Russia vs Ukraine (originally scheduled for Tuesday, 28 April 2015) to June 2015 where the game will be played in connection with the normally scheduled matches," the statement continues.
June is the month when the Men's EHF EURO 2016 Qualification comes to an end. For Round 5 (10/11 June) the return match, Ukraine vs Russia, is scheduled.
In Round 6 (13/14 June) Ukraine have to travel to Hungary, while Russia meet Portugal at home.
