MATCH REVIEW: PSG had to come from behind to take a win in this frantic head-to-head in Dunkerque

PSG come away with narrow win in French clash

Everybody expected a tough fight between Dunkerque HB Grand Littoral and Paris Saint-Germain Handball in this Last 16 tie of the VELUX EHF Champions League, and that's just what we got.

PSG come away with a win, but it was far from an easy day for the side from Paris as they had to come back being down one at half-time in a game dominated by strong back court play.

Last 16

Dunkerque HB Grand Littoral (FRA) vs Paris Saint-Germain Handball (FRA) 21:23 (13:12)

In a game with 14 two-minutes suspensions and two red cards the 2460 spectators witnessed a real scrap on the court as both sides fought tooth and nail for every inch of space.

Paris had the better start and after two Mikkel Hansen 7-meter throws, they were leading 3:0, but Dunkerque caught up and evened the score at 3:3.

The home side kept up this tempo with their back players being their best asset.

As soon as Soudry and Nagy took flight, Dunkerque took the lead leading 13:10 shortly before the break, Dunkerque kept this lead going into the dressing rooms up 13:12.

If the first half was a fierce battle, the second was more like “a handball war" according to Philippe Gardent, PSG's coach.

Dunkerque only scored two goals in 16 minutes, and thanks to Mikkel Hansen's eleven goals, they took the lead and led by two goals fifteen minutes before the end of the game.

Accambray, who had been transparent in the first half, took his responsibilities head on and scored some important goals.

Dunkerque suffered from Nagy, who was their real bread winner on the night, being sanctioned with an offensive foul and right after Jeffrey M'tima gave PSG a final two-goal advantage before the game ended in the Paris side’s favour 23:21.

Top scorers on the night were Mikkel Hansen with 11 goals for PSG and Kornel Nagy with six for his Dunkerque side.
