Ardesen fined for crowd troubles

The EHF Court of Handball has reached a decision in a case regarding security and good order issues in the 2014/2015 Women’s Challenge Cup Quarter-final (2nd leg) match: Pogon Baltica Szczecin (POL) vs. Ardesen GSK (TUR) which took place in Ardesen on 15 March 2015.

The club Ardesen GSK organised both legs and proceedings were opened against them following the occurrence of incidents. At the 57th minute of the match, spectators threw non-hazardous objects (empty carton cups) on the playing court causing a temporary interruption of the match. After the match, when a brawl between players began, some unauthorised spectators entered the playing court and the intervention of the police was necessary to take them out.

The Court found that the club failed to enforce their obligation to ensure good order, safety and security at all time and shall in addition be held responsible for the behaviour of the supporters. A total fine of €4,500 shall be paid by the club, €2,000 for the match interruption caused by the throwing of items and €2,500 for the post-match invasion of the court.

An appeal may be filed with the EHF Court of Appeal within seven days.
