Vardar finish the job in Györ

WHC Vardar SCBT managed to hold onto their six-goal advantage from the first leg coming away with a draw in Györ for the second leg.

With an awesome performance the Macedonian outfit took full control of the game after the first 30 minutes and left the defending champions standing.

Susan Müller joined the long queue of sidelined players for Györ, so the defending champion started with Macarena Aguilar in the right back position.

Györ started aggressively but Inna Suslina kept the home side at bay with some nice saves early on.

Andrea Penezic and Aniko Kovacsics were key for their sides as Györ started stronger building a confident lead, but Vardar kept up with their pace with goals from ex-Györ players Andrea Lekic and Jovanka Radicevic.

The Macedonian outfit kept coming back at the Hungarians and were trailing by just one goal at the break.

The second half promised a specatcular fight, but Vardar put an end to the Hungarian hopes of qualifying for the MVM EHF FINAL4 within the first ten minutes.

Amandine Leynaud made some crucial saves to help her team take the lead and Györ completely lost their grip of the match.

Whatever Ambros Martin threw at Jan Pytlick, the Danish coach had an answer to and the last 15 minutes saw Györ throw everything they had at the Macedonian side.

However, Vardar were able to see out the match as the game finished on level pegging.

Ambros Martin commented after the game: "We did what we could but we were not able to make our dream come true. I am proud of my team and our fans, who created a marvellous atmosphere. Congratulations to Vardar for the win."

Kari Grimsbo the Hungarian's side goalkeeper commented: "We had a really good week last week, we started the match well. Unfortunately, things did  not go as planned, I expected much also from myself, as well.”

Victorious Indira Kastratovic said: "Last week we thought about not only keeping the six-goals advantage, but we wanted to win this match. We are happy that we could, to some extent, do this. We are very happy with the result and will try to carry this good form over to the FINAL4.”
