Buducnost in MVM EHF FINAL4 with ease

Buducnost had no problems finishing the job and qualifying for the MVM EHF FINAL4, as they defeated Viborg HK 29:19 on their home court in the second leg of the quarter-final.

First leg 28:22. Buducnost win 57:41 on aggregate

With a six-goal lead after the first leg, Buducnost were obviously very close to reaching the MVM EHF FINAL4 ahead of the second leg, and the Montenegrin record champions had no problem finishing the job in the S. C. Moraca in Podgorica on Sunday.

Buducnost’s status as favourites in the second leg was further emphasised by Viborg’s long list of injuries.

Right back Louise Burgaard had to stay at home with a minor shoulder injury, as did line player Mette Gravholt who was nursing a knee problem.

Therefore, the Danish champions came to Montenegro with only ten players.

Still, Viborg got the better start leading 2:0, 3:2 and 4:3, and the visitors were able to keep the match equal almost until half-time, at which point Buducnost were leading 14:11.

From the start of the second half, the home team really started to create a distance, though, increasing their lead to 18:11 and 21:12.

Viborg coach Lars Friis Hansen tried a man-to-man defence against Buducnost’s left back Cristina Neagu for great parts of the match, but this tactic was without much result.

Towards the end of the match, Buducnost coach Dragan Adzic gave most of his substitutes some time on the court, but that did not stop the hosts from winning by ten goals and sealing a spot in the competition's final weekend for the second year in succession.

"It was not easy to play this match, especially after we received information that some players of Viborg did not come to Podgorica. We played below our level at the beginning, but later we were much better and deserved a convincing victory," Adzic said.

"The girls were not at the highest level, but they were made for the big game, and I believe that they will show the quality and character in Budapest. I have no desired opponent for the Tuesday's draw, my only desire is to achieve victory in the semi-final. All teams that have qualified for the final tournament in Budapest are great," Adzic added.

"Very tough game for us after the defeat in the first leg. We had the opportunity to celebrate in front of our fans, we have not used it and the chance is missed then. I am not disappointed with our performance in Podgorica, I am more sorry that we did not achieve a better result in front of our fans," Rikke Skov said.

"We're expecting tough matches in the Danish championship and I believe we get a place in the final, so we can play the Champions League next season again," Skov added.
