Finishing away not always a disadvantage

Most teams consider it a disadvantage to play the second leg of a cup tie away.

However, Pogon Baltica Szczecin and Union Mios Biganos-Begles may no longer subscribe to that point of view.

Last weekend saw both teams manage to turn difficult situations into final berths by winning away in the Women’s Challenge Cup.

Biganos-Begles were in a particularly difficult situation after the first leg of the all-French semi-final against HAC Handball.

In the first match at home, Biganos-Begles had lost by no less than seven goals, 28:21, but in the away match they managed to turn the tables completely.

After going 17:13 up at half-time, Biganos-Begles continued to impress and won 38:26, booking their ticket for the final with a five goals to spare, 59:54 on aggregate.

Pogon had not lost the first leg at home in Szczecin, but having won as narrowly as 29:28 against Galatchanka, the Polish team found themselves under pressure before the return match against their Ukrainian adversaries in Lviv.

Nevertheless, Pogon managed to win. After leading 14:13 at the break, the visitors continued in the second half to secure a 25:21 win and a ticket for the final against Mios Biganos-Begles.
