Denmark enters qualifiers against Belarus without world-class wings
It will be a Danish team without Hans Lindberg and Anders Eggert that faces Belarus in two top games in Qualification Group 2 for the EHF EURO 2016 in Poland.
Right wing Hans Lindberg is out for the rest of the season following a severe kidney injury he sustained in a German Bundesliga match with his club HSV Hamburg recently, while left wing Anders Eggert from SG Flensburg-Handewitt is taking a break from the national team.
"Of course, those two players are hard to replace. They are both among the best wing players in the world in my opinion, so of course they are not easily replaceable.
"However, I still have many good players at my disposal, so even though there are some changes due to injury and players who have stopped or are taking a break from the national team, I think we still have a strong team," says Denmark’s national coach Gudmundur Gudmundsson.
The Icelandic has replaced Lindberg and Eggert by Patrick Wiesmach from Team Tvis Holstebro and Stephan Hundstrup from Bjerringbro-Silkeborg.
"It is hard to estimate our chances against Belarus. They did not get as good a position at the World Championship as they would probably have wanted.
But they played some very good matches along the way, and there is no doubt that we must be prepared for two difficult matches. The away match in particular will be tough,” Gudmundsson tells ehf-euro.com
Denmark are currently at the top of Group 2 with four points after two matches, while Belarus have one point on their account.
The two teams meet in Minsk on 30 April and in Aarhus on 2 May.
