Dissinger signing an investment in Kiel's future

The story of Christian Dissinger's short career so far is a remarkable one, filled with unfortunate long-term injuries bad timing.

However, the 23-year-old left back appears to have caught a break and is set to take a major leap forward.

Dissinger, winner and MVP at the 2011 Junior World Championship with Germany, signed a two-year contract at THW Kiel, valid from next season.

The current TuS N-Lübbecke player signed by Swiss VELUX EHF Champions League participant Kadetten Schaffhausen in 2011, but suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his first big match with the club against FC Barcelona.

After successful return the following season only lasted until April 2013, when he injured the ACL once again, but his performance convinced Atletico Madrid to sign him for the following season.

Dissinger’s misfortune continued as he never got to wear the Atletico shirt, due to the club withdrawing from competition, and his career resumed in April 2014 at Lübbecke. All the while THW coach Alfred Gislason has been keeping an eye on his progression.

After signing Austrian talent Nykola Bilyk (18) on the back after his appearance at the World Championship in Qatar, Kiel announced another investment for the future on Wednesday.

“Christian Dissinger is a player with highest potential, and he will have his breakthrough at Kiel,” Gislason commented on the transfer.

“We are looking forward to giving another German talent the chance to improve at the highest international level,” added manager Thorsten Storm, adding: “He was highly unlucky with severe injuries, but he is one of the rare players who can score with long-range shots with his height.”

Dissinger was clearly delighted with his opportunity to play for the three-time EHF Champions League winner: “A dream came true for me. It is an incredible opportunity given to me by THW. I hope I can pay back the trust they have in me.”

This summer also sees two goalkeepers, Niklas Landin (Rhein Neckar Löwen) and Nikolas Katsigiannis (HC Erlangen), arrive at Kiel, while Aron Palmarsson (Veszprem), Johan Sjöstrand (Melsungen) and Andreas Palicka (Aalborg) will leave the record German champions. Bilyk will arrive at the latest in 2017.

However, this may not be the end of Alfred Gislason’s summer purchases: “Maybe we can announce some more new arrivals in the upcoming weeks.”
