Woltering’s heroics in goal earn the MVP award

The season of mouth-watering goals is now over, and the race to win the best scorer’s trophy could not be decided on the court in Budapest.

Andrea Penezic had a great game against Dinamo-Sinara and topped it off with nine goals, while despite the first minute injury in the final match against Larvik, Women’s EHF Champions League winner Cristina Neagu, managed to score three to finish the season on equal terms with Vardar sharpshooter – 102 goals each.

It’s the trophy that matters

Andrea Penezic lived up to the high expectations put in front of her, becoming Vardar’s most influential summer acquisition. Furthermore, the towering Croatian’s performances in Vardar shirt were nothing short of amazing, being recognized the best scorer of the Women’s EHF Champions League.

The newcomer brought exactly what Vardar needed this season with her goal-scoring prowess on their road to the MVM EHF FINAL4, as her benchmark performances against Györ saw her thrive in the spotlight.

Despite not reaching the final, Penezic had a great weekend Budapest frontrunning her team’s effort to defend last season’s result as a consolation prize for the Croatian star.

"It is not that important to me if I will be the top scorer or not. My only goal at Budapest was to win the title with the team," said Penezic.

The perfect season

The awe-inspiring season for the Romanian superstar Cristina Neagu, was crowned by the exhilarating performance at the MVM EHF FINAL4. Neagu’s on-court presence and end-to-end game was the main reason behind Buducnost undefeated season, while her goalscoring contributions reached three digits at the final match against Larvik.

However, Neagu waited until late in the second period of the final match to supply the goods, reaching the top spot on the scoring list alongside Andrea Penezic, leading Buducnost to their second Women’s EHF Champions League title. With great joy on her face, it was a double celebration for Neagu, taking two trophies to Podgorica.

“I am so happy. I am beyond words, actually. To lift the trophy and win the best scorer award - it is a perfect result and a perfect ending to a season. Now I have it all,” said the EHF Champions League joint best scorer, Cristina Neagu.

The dominance displayed by Buducnost shines through the whole team, as the MVP of the Women’s EHF Champions League is found in goal of the Montenegrin team – the irrepressible Clara Woltering.

"I think this is one of my most important and best moment of my life. I will leave Buducnost after this season, so this is the perfect way to say goodbye,“ said the MVP goalkeeper, finishing the perfect season, and bidding farewell to Buducnost in Budapest.
