Undefeated Buducnost take the trophy for the second time in history

An electrifying weekend in Budapest comes to a close as Buducnost lift the 2015 Women’s EHF Champions League trophy for the second time in history (since 2012), with an impressive performance against Larvik that ended 22:26.

The Montenegrin powerhouse did not allow left doubt in people's minds about who deserved the title, finishing their season by lifting a trophy in Budapest by overcoming Larvik and surviving their late comeback.

"We held 283 training sessions this season. Last time we lost match in this arena on 5 May 2014, but that was a loss that gave us a very important experience," said Buducnost coach Dragan Adzic.

On her return to Budapest, and the MVM EHF FINAL4, Katarina Bulatovic came up with the goods for her team just when they needed her the most, with a seven-goal performance and one year after she had lifted the trophy with Györ she repeated the feat with her new club.

Nora Mork took upon herself to supply the goals for her team, finishing the game with 10 goals, while having only Anja Hammerseng-Edin on par offensively scoring six.

"We weren‘t ready in the first half, but the second period was much better. I am proud how our team came back to the game, but I‘m angry and disappointed, because we didn’t manage to do our best in the first minutes,“ Larvik captain Gro Hammerseng-Edin said.

MVM EHF FINAL4, final match

Larvik (NOR) vs Buducnost (MNE) 22:26 (8:14)

Buducnost gave a preview of what was to come for Larvik, undoing their gameplan from the very start. The “Blues” went up four to nil in the opening four minutes of the match, defending the transition and mercilessly converting the counter attacks (0:4).

Dragan Adzic’s game plan was proven unbeatable again, and the Buducnost defence stood strong against even the likes of Larvik, who had only their back court to turn to, with the ball supply to the wing players cut off - Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth Koren being unsuccessful from all three of her attempts in the match (all in the first half).

The Larvik back court attack did, however, always look dangerous. Looking to exploit any potential liability in the Buducnost defence, they managed to  narrow the gap to 7:9 on the 23rd minute.

Buducnost's defence was immaculate, with Majda Mehmedovic and Radmila Petrovic closing down on every counter attack opportunity, as they regained full control of the match with 5:0 run ending the second half (8:14).

Bulatovic who closed the first half with a goal, opened the second period with another lightning effort from right back to pave the way for an eight-goal lead (18:10) on the 10th minute mark.

Larvik's defence tried to hinder Cristina Neagu, but it was Bulatovic who menacing from the back. This streched Larvik's line and both Neagu and Knezevic showed clever play, delivering every ball to the line for the Cvijic to finish.

Mehmedovic also used the space created to finish off sitters from the many counter.

Just when everyone had written them off, Larvik had a late rally eight minutes to go and closed the gap from 13:21 to 18:22, with the prolific Mork on song.

Buducnost slowed the tempo in the dying minutes with Bulatovic dealing the final blow gifting them the trophy. The final score reading: 26:22.
